During the collective bargaining process, students, family, friends and the public may ask you for information about contract negotiations. The following information will help you address their concerns. As one of Ontario`s community colleges, Centennial College does not negotiate directly with its faculty members. The provincial government is asking the College Employer Council to act as the bargaining agent representing Ontario`s public colleges (employers) in centralized collective bargaining with unionized employees. OPSEU represents three collective bargaining groups for university employees: academic staff (CAAT-A), full-time support staff and part-time support staff. A collective agreement is a written contract between an employer and a union that sets out many of the terms and conditions of employment of employees in a collective bargaining unit. There are two collective agreements that cover members of the Algonquin Order`s collective bargaining unit. The academic collective agreement applies to professors, lecturers, part-time employees, consultants and librarians. The Auxiliary Collective Agreement applies to all full-time support employees, Employees of Appendices D and G.

The College Employer Council represents colleges, while OPSEU represents academic staff in the bargaining process. The College Employer Council is the government-appointed bargaining agent that represents Ontario`s 24 public colleges as employers in centralized collective bargaining with unionized employees.
